In 1977, three years after the Watergate scandal that ended his presidency, Richard Nixon (Frank Langella) selects British TV personality David Frost (Michael Sheen) to conduct a one-on-one, exclusive interview. Though Nixon believes it will be easy to mislead Frost, and the latter's own team doubts that he can stand up to the former president, what actually unfolds is an unexpectedly candid and revealing interview before the court of public opinion.

Critics Consensus

Frost/Nixon is weighty and eloquent; a cross between a boxing match and a ballet with Oscar worthy performances.

Deborah Ross The Spectator This is a splendid film that's genuinely fascinating and gripping, and you don't get many of those for the pound these days. Aug 29, 2018 Full Review Tom Charity CNN.com In its glib and reductionist way, it works like a charm. Or better yet, like television. Which, finally, is a compliment. Oct 28, 2014 Full Review Fionnuala Halligan Screen International The magnificently-flawed former US president Richard Milhous Nixon, as embodied by Frank Langella, is a magnetic presence in Ron Howard's adaptation of Peter Morgan's stageplay. Oct 28, 2014 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Frost/Nixon may have played one way upon its initial release in 2008 but it certainly plays differently in a post-January 6 world. Rated: 4/5 Mar 7, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Howard’s Frost/Nixon contains more thrills than any other film in his career. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 5, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Peter Morgan adapts his own play, and together he and director Ron Howard open it up so that the end result feels much more vibrant than merely a constricted stage piece plunked down in front of a camera. MG_Claymore C Very good film. Gripping insight into Nixon's mind. "I'm saying that if the President does it, that means it's not illegal's." - Nixon Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Chris H I'm still learning things about Watergate. It really wasn't such a big deal in the UK; it seemed boring. Unsurprisingly, every film I've seen about it is also just plain dull - apart from this one. Compelling performances from the two leads create a gripping watch and even though the film still (for me) assumes too much knowledge about the issue, it boils it down nicely to Nixon's own perception of himself. Brilliant stuff. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Gareth v A clever political drama that comes across as sporting movie as two forces trade blows. Brilliantly written, superbly acted, the tension that is built through just dialogue is fantastic. One of 2008's best movies. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Chipper H Excellent! Ron H's top films. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/23 Full Review Shioka O Decent political drama, gripping and entertaining at the same time. There are many films about the event and the president, and this is also compelling owed to flawless acting by stellar casts. Never know how much of these are true, but feel so real and probable.
