Walter Campbell is an aging heartthrob who's struggling to keep up appearances with his estranged daughter. Hoping to reconnect, he impulsively invites himself to crash her vacation getaway in Big Sur, Calif. 'Funny Story' is a charming little indy flick with some comedic bite. Narratively, it's annoying, but once the film settles in, it moves and entertains. Wasn't a huge fan of the ending, but I did like the idea of a lesbian commune. Somebody make a series there, if it hasn't already been done! Final Score: 7.3/10

Matthew Glave, one of my favorite American actors, gets to show all of his colors in this indie look at a dad who has stumbled in his relationships with women, impacting his relationship with his gay daughter. When he unknowingly makes a taboo error, the shadows of darkness and responsibility cross his face like scars. Throughout, Glave is complex: funny, smart, dorky, sexy, broken, strong and vulnerable. A performance not to be missed.
