Cheryl Eddy io9.com There’s some uneven acting that might distract a less forgiving viewer, but the clown and his aura of menace are extremely effective. Aug 5, 2025 Full Review Kat Hughes THN A watchable, but unengaging film that passes the time without being fully satisfying. Rated: 2/5 Nov 9, 2020 Full Review Bobby LePire Film Threat Gags The Clown has a few issues, but it works where it counts. It is a scary, intense watch with an engaging premise. And it is all brought to life by an excellent cast. Rated: 9/10 Oct 3, 2019 Full Review Michael Gingold Rue Morgue Magazine Like too many found-footage films, Gags devotes too much of its running time to its characters arguing with and throwing insults at each other. Sep 14, 2019 Full Review Matt Donato Flickering Myth GAGS THE CLOWN is no sideshow pushover. It's like MOCKINGBIRD meets SLENDER MAN but way, way better. Rated: 3/5 Sep 9, 2019 Full Review Peter Sobczynski eFilmCritic.com The found-footage approach utilized here doesn't really bring anything of value to the proceedings. The combination of humor and horror never quite pans out either. Aug 30, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Ryan F Good comedy horror film, the ending was a bit crazy no spoilers but it was banging Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Niko craft foundation I haven't seen it yet but I'm looking forward to watch it Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This isn't the greatest movie you'll ever see or the worst. People keep seeing a clown appearing out of nowhere and people don't know if they should take him serious or not. But balloons are being kept in certain places and when they pop on a person that person does begin to change a lot. If you like clowns or they freak you out this would definitely be a good movie for you Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Andy J Like a lot of movies showed promise a third of the way in, and then just died. Too focused on the news reporters, etc rather than the clown. Ultimately disappointing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/31/21 Full Review Audience Member A predictable "horror" trope that finds the time to insult conservatives multiple times through the boring snooze fest. You know leftists made this when they showed a "conservative nutjob" holding guns with no trigger discipline. Dont waste your time Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I have always felt that in general, horror movies get cheated by critics/reviewers. If you're a fan of the horror genre as a whole, there's some campy elements that just come with the territory. You may even come to enjoy those idiosyncrasies (I do). In my humble opinion, it's what makes the horror genre so fun. I'm just saying that with the horror genre in general, I'm willing to look past misgivings that I might not be as quick to forgive if it were a drama or a war movie (just an example). When I sit down to watch GAGS THE CLOWN, I'm not expecting to have my mind blown the way THE USUAL SUSPECTS or INCEPTION first got me. I'm not looking for rich storytelling or fully-fleshed out characters that practically fall of the screen like THE GODFATHER. That said, GAGS THE CLOWN is pretty standard fare. Very cool concept. I really like the way social media and the news media is used to sensationalize the story and work the city into a terrified frenzy. Pretty on point in 2020. I like the casting. I found myself liking the "good guys" and not liking the "bad guys", so they got that part right. The characters spend a bit too much time pointlessly arguing, but it's not too distracting. What did start to become distracting was all the pointless exposition. Way too much time wasted explaining the characters personal lives in ways that were completely unrelated to the actual story the movie was trying to tell. The found footage / POV style approach is pretty tired at this point, and I feel like the movie relies too heavily on it in scenes where it really doesn't make any sense. My favorite horror movie of all time is [REC] from 2007, so it's not that I have an issue with the found footage style as a whole. I just felt like in this particular case it didn't add to the story or help drive the story in any meaningful way. Visually, I thought the movie actually looked great. The atmosphere in the dark Green Bay streets and industrial parks was very creepy. The abandoned steel mill at the end was very scary looking. The creepy ass clown music was pretty awesome too. I like to rate movies the same way every time. On a scale of 1-5, for me every movie starts at a 3. When it does things well, the score goes up. When it does things poorly, the score goes down. I guess in my mind that keeps things objectively fair. That said, I'm going to leave it at a 3. The positives and negatives pretty much outweigh each other. We're left with a pretty average horror movie. Believe me, you can do MUCH worse. This one isn't too bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
