Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Ganymede is a diamond-in-the-rough gem with a committed performance from Doww and a well-constructed screenplay from Holt that addresses how outside forces can create imaginary monsters that then could do us harm if we don’t fight them off. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 14, 2024 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Ganymede is rarely subtle and often struggles with tonal whiplash, but an earnest screenplay and a handful of strong performances allow it to rise above its shortcomings. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 2, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Featuring affecting lead performances from Pablo Castelblanco and Jordan Doww and over-the-top performances from David Koechner and Robin Lively, Ganymede is a bit all over the place, but the pros outweigh the cons. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 2, 2024 Full Review Brandon Judell Brandon Judell (Medium) This heartfelt exploration of a young wrestler from an EXTREMELY religious household seeking his first same-sex kiss is in the end a hoot and a half. Coming to that realization, though, might take you through 2 or 3 Twizzlers and a handful of popcorn. Aug 31, 2024 Full Review Gregg Shapiro Bay Area Reporter What sets "Ganymede" apart from other movies about queer teens coming out in religiously conservative households, and the dreadfulness of conversion therapy, is the way the screenplay, written by Holt, interweaves elements of horror... Rated: B Aug 20, 2024 Full Review John Paul King Washington Blade Ganymede inverts the supposed moral order of traditional, old-school horror narratives by framing the forces of religion – or at least, a weaponized form of it – as the source of the story’s true evil. prawnda s the point of the film is made very early on and the monster or apparition is revealed too early and too often without any real emphasis or concern for pacing. the script is filled with contrivances and generally boring. we have seen better religious critiques, better queer coming of age films and better horror films, what is left here stands uneasily on the lines between these without dedicating anything meaningful to any of them. i don't recommend it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Gavin L One of the best movies I've seen in awhile. A very touching and relatable story to many paired with insanely incredible acting. A Must See! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review F X Great actors. Amazing script. I loved this movie. The monster of religion, cognitive dissonance of those self righteous zealots who want to save while doing more life long harm than good, self acceptance, and more. I can’t recommend this movie enough to anyone who has ever been made to feel ashamed for just being themselves. 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Michael P Moronic view of Christians. Driven by stereotypical Hollywood BS. For all the movies about oppressive Christians there are you'd think a person would meet just one at their local church. Nobody cares if you're a dude that likes another dude. Get over yourselves. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review Damien B If you are looking for a slow burn southern gothic queer horror, then you have come to the right place. Ganymede captures the chest crushing control of the evangelical south, where the real monsters are people. Jordan Doww holds it down in his first lead role where he perfectly captures what it is like to grow up, closeted and queer, and feeling no way out. The Ganymede is all of us, and the only way to freedom, is through taking the deepest dives into the darkest waters. If you are queer and have felt any of this, highly recommend watching, it will be healing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review David P Such a great, relatable storyline. Great acting by Jordan Doww and the entire cast. Highly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
