Most folks don’t know anything about Greta Garbo, so they’ll learn a few things from this movie. But only at the risk of getting really irritated. Go to Full Review

The question director Lorna Tucker asks in the title, Garbo: Where Did You Go? is a silly one that was answered decades before this film unnecessarily posed it. Go to Full Review

Lulu J Nov 29 Extremely frustrating film. I don't understand why this director/writer inserted herself into the film as some weird American character from the '50s in a black turtleneck and peddle pushers and a really bad yellow wig and a monotoned vocal fry voice and huge capped teeth, with a plastic face and weird glittering eyes that looked like AI--making exaggerated faces as she narrated....while pretending not to be narrating but talking to herself? And this totally silly freaky burn victim mask that some other actress comes in and out holding up in front of her face, staring into mirrors and dancing by herself? The parts actually about Garbo---and not these stupid cringe interludes--were great but it's only about 50% of the film. The rest is this stylistic absolute nonsense. It made me want to kick in my TV every time the director/narrator showed up. Equally bad was voiceovers of someone I guess(?) was supposed to be Garbo herself? But sounded like someone doing a Cockney accent...not Swedish...and not the compelling low husky Garbo voice. The whole thing is an inexplicable mess and a discredit to Greta Garbo. The director/writer seems like such a narcissist making it about herself! See more David F Jun 2 A good, solid biography of the screen legend, which cuts through the myths to tell the story of Greta Garbo’s life with the help of people who knew her or are descended from people who knew her, along with letters, memoirs, photographs, old films, and the classic studio pictures she starred in. See more Katherine C May 26 I wanted to scream at the narrator, the mask, and blond actress. Useless junk that got in the way of an interesting doc. Blah. See more Simple M May 19 An embarrassing disservice to the screen legend by a filmmaker seemingly more intrigued with herself than the subject matter. See more Robin L May 18 Someone decided to try an unorthodox and theatrical approach to this biography, and it's absolutely cringe inducing. Why? Couldn't they see that those parts clearly didn't work? They'd have done so much better to just show photos or film clips of her and have voice-overs that were blessedly free of being "acted". But if you're willing to suffer through the approach, there is information about Garbo that's worthwhile. See more P B May 18 If you cut out the terrible blond actress and the weird mask bullshit, you might have a pretty interesting 60 minute documentary. As it is, I quit 45 minutes in. I just couldn't endure it anymore. See more Read all reviews
