Chris Michael Guardian Unscripted honesty and amateur performances hold your attention, just as the improbable yet weirdly plausible love affair between Mathilde and Ismal is given vitality and passion by two utterly believable performances from Garcia and Kateb. Rated: 4/5 Jan 28, 2014 Full Review Brendan Kelly Montreal Gazette Watching the France/Quebec co-production Gare du Nord, I thought -- not for the first time in my life as a critic -- that this film would have worked better as a documentary. Audience Member Interesting premise, only it's overlong, fragmented, loose & lack of organised planning during execution. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Warm and engaging view of the melting pot that transit house Gare du Nord is. Made with drive and true interest in people, the kaleidoscopic narrative zooms in on, and out from, the lives of passengers, sales people of various kinds, and semi-inhabitants of the train station. A well build up, tragic love story alternates with the filmic style of registering events in anthropological mode, and establishes a nice confusion of depiction of reality and feature film. The actors keep you glued to the screen. Emotion without sentiment, snapshots adding up to a genuine portrait gallery - a formidable film.
