Don W 08/29/2023 The movie brings out some ideas that an expert (like Jerry Coyne, P. Z. Myers, or Ken Miller, or Donald Prothro) could find fault with. Geneticists tell us that 98 per cent of human DNA is the same as Chimp DNA. The movie says it is less. So what? All we know is that there is a difference. Numbers by themselves don't tell us much. The lecturer doesn't seem to understand evolution much because he doesn't say much except he'll do more research. No matter what evidence can be brought up saying that scientists are wrong, the movie fails to do one thing----that faults in science does not make creation stories true. There is zero evidence that the creation stories of the bible took place. It is, therefore, totally unsupported and useless as an explanation for the existence of the universe, the earth, or human beings. Intelligent Design people failed to prove their case in the Dover trial--it is not science, and it is also useless as an explanation of our existence. At certain points, the student and an audience member bring in creationist ideas. In a discussion of evolution, creationist ideas are irrelevant. If evolution, anthropology, and paleontology are incorrect in their conclusions, that fact is not evidence that creationist ideas are true. That's like a murder mystery story finding that there is no evidence that John killed the dead guy, then concluding that Elvis did, but with no evidence whatsoever of Elvis' involvement. Saying that evolution is incorrect is not evidence that Adam and Eve existed or that there was a flood. Those assertions require evidence. See more Read all reviews
