      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Christoph Waltz delivers a noteworthy performance in Georgetown, but its muddled satire and tonal misfire demote this starry crime drama to predictably pleasing fare.

Susan S Great cast and interesting story! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/18/21 Full Review Susan J Redgrave made the movie for me. She is the consummate actress. Christoph Waltz was outstanding as "butler", as she called him. I was less impressed with Annette Bening. Her portrayal of the disgruntled daughter was the weakest character. She needs to work on facial expressions. I clicked the star (4), but it would not allow it to show up. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/21 Full Review Alec B There's a bluntness to the narrative I appreciate. Mott is so obviously a grifter and the elite D.C. spaces he infiltrates are populated by people who firmly believe they could never be grifted which makes them the perfect target for someone who has ambition without much intelligence. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Giorgio G It starts off a bit boring, but soon drags one into the dark and strange story of this sleazebag, climbing up ranks of imaginary fame and fortune. Unfortunately there are people like that all across the globe, charming themselves into ever higher positions of influence. Some wreaking havoc in the process, other cheating millions, even billions out of unsuspecting victims. All gaining what they should not have. Christoph Waltz's and Vanessa Redgrave's performances are impeccable and really bring this story to life. True or not! 6 1/2 out of 10 points. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review acsdoug D A decent story with a great performance by Waltz. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review john g Really well acted thriller. Really amazing story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Christoph Waltz is such a master at playing debonair and duplicitous manipulator... Rated: 3.5/4 May 22, 2021 Full Review Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I found it moderately entertaining... Poor Annette Bening was wasted. May 21, 2021 Full Review Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's silly, but watching Vanessa Redgrave get wooed by a younger man -- Christoph Waltz is laying on the charm -- is nice. May 21, 2021 Full Review Terry Staunton Radio Times Annette Bening in particular sorely underused as Redgrave's disapproving daughter. Waltz is the exception... he delivers a masterclass of charm with an undercurrent of evil. Rated: 3/5 Sep 29, 2022 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media True-ish crime drama has strong language, domestic abuse. Rated: 3/5 Sep 11, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Solid performances from Waltz, Redgrave and Benning help sell this story that almost feels otherworldly. But its craziness is part of what makes it so compelling, and it’s what keeps you glued to the screen even during its rocky patches. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
