Guy Dixon Globe and Mail An unassuming, clear-headed documentary about the hope that heaven and Earth may have actually produced a miracle, at least this time around, and allowed a species back from extinction. Rated: 3/4 Aug 5, 2011 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader The movie is impressive for its sophisticated take on blind hope. Sep 16, 2010 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times Scott Crocker has turned a bird-watching tale into a multilayered story that will fascinate practically everybody. Rated: 4/5 Apr 30, 2010 Full Review Christopher Long Movie Metropolis Crocker crafts a surprisingly suspenseful tale as he follows the battle of experts on each side as well as the more fundamental tug of war between faith and empiricism. Rated: 8/10 Sep 23, 2014 Full Review Phil Hall Film Threat Offers a rueful consideration of the circumstances that drive species into extinction. Rated: 3/5 Dec 15, 2010 Full Review Robert W. Butler Kansas City Star Ghost Bird feels a bit flat and by-the-numbers, and at almost 90 minutes, padded. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 10, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member better than the movie they made about this "woodpecker" Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Bird people be crazy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member a surprisingly fascinating documentary about the possible rediscovery of a previously extinct species. This offers a very balanced & unobtrusive look at the blind hope that this bird has given to so many. The filmmakers show the cause & effect of so many other extinctions, without being preachy about it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I still think they exist... :) This movie hits home, literally. Loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Good but a tad overlong. Great look, though, at how hope and faith can overwhelm evidence and caution and how a bandwagon mentality can redirect resources away from valuable endeavors to fund a snipe hunt. Hmm...that could be a parable for the war in Iraq. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member any story about the ivory billed woodpecker always catches my eye so i've been highly anticipating this doc ever since i heard on NPR a few years ago that it was being shot. it did not disappoint - beautiful HD of the arkansas swamps, fun interviews with the locals, illuminating interviews with ornithological giants (sibley!), and just the mystery of it all just totally captured me. love it.
