Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Unfortunately, Ghost Planet is almost completely let down by its poorly written and delivered dialogue, that feels very lacklustre against the bold and out-there location. TRAVIS G I just watched the movie GHOST PLANET. The movie has a lot of strong scenes that I enjoyed watching and which were very comical. The movie is written & directed by Philip J Cook. This is a cool sci-fi movie which is pretty neat and futuristic to watch. The movie has good dialogue and drama and scenes of friendship and camaraderie. It was also shot in a very cool way with many scenes that take you to the future.. The storyline pulls you in many directions as you're watching this movie. I thought all the lead actors all had great onscreen chemistry– they were great together. The sets are great for an indie movie. I look forward to what this director and filmmaker has coming up next! Check this movie out! You’ll remember it! Great themes and good mission and adventure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Catherane S This film was fun and imaginative to watch and Philip J Cook did a great job taking us on this journey. This group of siblings, set in a futuristic world, are traveling through space to stake their claim to a far-off planet that will make them wealthy, while navigating difficult and scary obstacles along the way. For a low-budget film the sets and special effects were outstanding. It's hard to point out just one, but the car chase was especially memorable. Naiad, played by Julie Kashmanian, was excellent. She had a sense of purity and honesty that was wonderful to watch, totally believable. I would recommend giving GHOST PLANET a look. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Pat H Ghost Planet manages to build a proper sci-fi environment with some clearly somewhat limited resources and then actually has fun with it. This isn't really the genre where you expect a “yes, that's me” voice over during the cold open, but Ghost Planet manages to keep things suitably light and engaging in a genre full of more ponderous approaches. The almost non-stop vfx are, of course, an understandably mixed bag (this doesn't seem to have been the kind of production where someone could turn on the money hose every time there was a challenge) but at their best they are genuinely impressive and certainly effective enough to immerse the viewer in the story world. Joe Mayes as Max Stone does some fun work here. There are some mild jump scares to keep things popping in the second half when the tone takes a turn for the darker. and the overall ‘team on a mission’ vibe provides an involving and quirky way to spend an evening. The final lines tease the possibilities of more adventures to come, and I'd cheerfully welcome the possibility. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review Jess W A group of astronauts travel to a desolate planet, uncovering a lone survivor who may hold the key to unlocking its alien technology. But when a gang of mercenaries show up, a deadly fight for survival ensues. It all makes for a pulpy throwback space western vibe that never takes itself too seriously, with a likeable cast and pacing that moves briskly enough to keep things fun. For a low budget indie, it also looks impressive, with almost every shot of the film featuring at least one complicated visual effect. It's incredibly ambitious and, having dabbled a little into VFX world myself, the fact that it's even possible to make something like this on a micro budget shows just how far we've come in the last 20 years. Well worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Eric V I have to say that I was really shocked by how much I enjoyed this movie as a sci-fi fan. As it started with somewhat dated computer animation for the space scenes, my expectations were low. But the plot and the actors were terrific - the direction as well. Even the animation grew on me as the movie went on. The end of the movie left the door wide open for a sequel, which I truly hope will come soon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Tom S Ghost Planet took me on an adventure to a mysterious world. I enjoyed the character dynamics and the film's sense of adventure. It’s an original, good old-fashioned sci-fi yarn, and I would definitely recommend it if you've seen everything else and are looking for a light spaceship tale.
