Professor Phillip Goodman devotes his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans. His skepticism soon gets put to the test when he receives news of three chilling and inexplicable cases -- disturbing visions in an abandoned asylum, a car accident deep in the woods and the spirit of an unborn child. Even scarier -- each of the macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to the professor's own life.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader A real layer cake, this horror lark from British TV guys Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman. Mar 5, 2020 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) It's a letdown to find that there's nothing at the bottom of a box of tricks which in themselves are not as clever as they could have been. Rated: 2/5 Oct 29, 2018 Full Review David Stratton The Australian This is a low-tech affair, and all the more interesting for it. You never know quite where it's going, but it doesn't let up for a moment. Rated: 4/5 Oct 26, 2018 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson The over-caffeinated and desensitized segment of genre fans might call it boring, while the veterans who remember effective minimalism will be squeezed by the twisted nerve leading to solid suspense. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2024 Full Review Benedict Seal Vague Visages Ghost Stories is refreshingly old-fashioned in its embrace of classical horror techniques. Ultimately, Nyman and Dyson’s film is so full-bloodedly cinematic that it leaves one wondering how on earth they captured this on the stage. el che m Muy buena pelicula da miedo dw verdad una joya escondida Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Korra N Spooky, unsettling & impeccably staged, Ghost Stories is a great British horror film that does invite a few rewatches, but the ending is sure to be polarizing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review B P ‘Ghost Stories’ Is Theatrical Horror at Its Best Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review how e Holy sh**! This got me. It gives a very good scare. It does get strange at some point but .. yeah give it a go. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/04/25 Full Review Gabriel S Ghost Stories is one of those films that deceive with its apparent simplicity, a low age rating, at least the version I watched was marked PG-12, and modest names, although Martin Freeman is a known face. But the engaging narrative and intriguing plot reveal a well-constructed and surprisingly good film for horror fans. Don't be fooled: Ghost Stories is scary. The story follows the skeptical Professor Phillip Goodman, who dedicates his life to unraveling and debunking supernatural phenomena through the lens of reason, in an unconscious attempt to make up for his troubled childhood with an extremely religious father. However, everything takes a twisted turn when a famous skeptic hands Goodman three impossible cases, claiming that not even he could find the logic behind the facts. Goodman embodies the classic main character in ghost stories: the skeptic who needs to believe. His fragility contrasts with his determination to prove that the cases are merely the products of disturbed minds, a common neurosis in people with a mentality afflicted by personal traumas. We quickly begin to doubt whether Goodman should maintain this skepticism. The segment in Tony's house, the individual from the second case, is sensational. Until then, the story was light, calm, but that house... Chilling! From that point on, the film takes on a dark tone that remains until its conclusion. The narrative arc closes satisfactorily, with an unpredictable but fitting final twist. Everything makes sense in the end. This film is an adaptation of a play of the same name created by the directors, who contributed as writers in both cases. Easy to say that both deserve due respect.
