The family of 12-year-old Xiao Xiao (Liu Qing) arranges her marriage to 2-year-old Chun Guan (Zhang Yu) and sends her to a remote, rural village where she lives with her prospective in-laws and raises the boy mostly by herself. Four years later, Xiao Xiao (Na Renhua) succumbs to the charms of handsome farmhand Hua Gou (Deng Xiao-quang) but finds her reputation in danger.
