Bahar is the leader of the Girls of the Sun, a battalion of women in Kurdistan who are fighting women against extremists who have conquered their small Kurdish town. She hopes that in the process she will find her son, who is being held hostage. Mathilde, a French journalist, comes along to cover the attack and report the story of these exceptional warriors. With their lives turned upside down, they both are fighting for the same causes: women, life and liberty.

Don't know what the critics smoked before watching this film... A truely horrific story told in a way that was easier to swallow. It didn't shy away from telling the horrors but also left some things to the imagination. We were unable to look away & I sat at the edge of my seat throughout the film. Fantastic movie.

I have never understood the critics. This was an engaging must see movie, that enables a glimpse into the nightmare that ISIS visited on ordinary people, and the courage of those that fought back, and won. Wonderful atmospheric camera work, and a plot line that fits to the chaos of the times. If you don't believe it, ask someone who was there. They are heroes. Thank you for making this movie.

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. The critics are wrong, this is an advancement in both story telling and cinematography. But the real advance is in showing what a female cast can do in order to tell the truth about the ugliness of war.

Great film. Really intelligent portrayal of the human rights abuses committed by ISIS against the Yezidi people, and women more specifically. Also an interesting view of war through women's eyes. It was refreshingly authentic to see Kurdish people playing the Kurds, Arabs playing the Arabs and so on.
