Power A Gabourey Sidibe's performance in Give Me Back My Daughter is what really pulled me in. She's honest, frustrated, vulnerable, caring, and empathetic. She embodies a mother doing her best who also needs to realize community is a necessity to be okay. It feels real. With how the world is at the moment, there's a lot of people who are upper and/or middle class who may slide downwards economically, or in the worst case scenario, find themselves un-housed even as they work and/or seek work. I think this film will resonate with their experience, especially since going from "being alright" to "economically ruined" is a devastating problem that America actively chooses not to fix.
