Ash P It's funny that this was released last year but was more released this year right next to the next movie that we'll watch next week. I remember seeing them both being in theaters, but I'd never seen them. Maybe it's because I need a refresher since I was due for a re-watch on the series. And maybe they had to release both movies in theaters since it makes up for a combined length of two and a half hours. Unlock how the last movie was more of the arc of Akihiko and Haruki, this is more of its own while being an arc of its own. Also, this movie does take place after a solo episode known as "on the other hand." I'm surprised that there isn't such a thing as making a separate review, but I don't mind it since having to make a review of a single episode feels a little meh. Sure, I could make details of it, but I'm more of a series or a movie kind of person when it comes to writing reviews. But I digress. If you're curious about what I thought about that episode, it's okay since we see Uenoyama and Mafuyu getting closer to their relationship. Not to mention, it ends in a competition where the band of boys that Mafuyu knew when he was with their band called syh and they'd won the competition. The movie does pick up after the episode where both given and syh are buddy-buddy, while both ends are talking about what they want to do with their future. To them, they want to build their future on music, which is understandable that you keep doing what you want to accomplish your dreams. Mafuyu writes a song, yet it does come back even to Uenoyama about the song that Mafuyu's ex-boyfriend wrote and decided to record the same lyrics in his own vision. To make this movie interesting, we dive into more information about Yuki before he'd committed suicide as it was mentioned once or twice in the anime series. But the funny thing is that the focus is different on the characters who star in this movie. Sure, we still focus on both Mafuyu and Uenoyama with what they wanted to do along with writing the song they wanted to play on stage. They even see Akihiko and Haruki, who'd moved into their new place as they advance their relationship even further. Separately, by the way. The focus seems to be more on Hiiragi and Shizusumi as Hiiragi has a crush on Shizusumi since they were kids when Yuki was alive and when Mafuyu would hang out with them. To make it interesting, syh had brought Uenoyama in as a "fill-in" upon agreement when they wanted him to join their band. Although, what is with these movies involving boys either forcing themselves on their loved ones like in the last movie or in this one, one of them breaks into their lovers place, surprising them before they get intimate? Oh, well. Better to say that it's all young love and nothing gets in their way. It's all love and war with given. The music is still fantastic, and it seems like the animation has been improved in this movie. I mean, when you look between the given anime series, the last movie, and this movie, you can tell that they have improved since then. As far as seeing this movie, it is better than the last movie. Not to mention, it does explain more about Yuki, who was mentioned a couple of times in the anime. Plus, to see more of Mafuyu being in the same group with Hiiragi and Shizusumi before he'd left after Yuki's suicide was a nice touch in the backstory. It might be odd, but it's also funny that we see that Hiiragi and Shizusumi are certainly similar to Mafuyu and Uenoyama. Hey, they'd said it. Not me. I know this is pretty much of a short review, but if you're a fan of given, this is certainly worth checking out. Where would the finale of the next movie lead? We shall see. With that, I'm gonna give it seven Hiiragi on top of Shizusumi out of ten. 7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
