What to Know

Critics Consensus

Echoing its predecessor while upping the bloodsport and camp, Gladiator II is an action extravaganza that derives much of its strength and honor from Denzel Washington's scene-stealing performance.

Kristy Puchko Mashable For all its faults, Gladiator II is an extraordinary film, the kind that demands to be seen in theaters. Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Dwight Brown DwightBrownInk.com In a cast of veteran actors and extremely talented up-and-comers, Washington steals the movie. He takes the throne. Rated: 3/4 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Manohla Dargis New York Times Fast, brutal and absorbing, the shocker opener sets the template for the rest of the movie, which plays — and often feels — like one long, inventively diverse, elaborately imaginative fight. Dec 9, 2024 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice A sequel to the 2000 hit focusing on two charismatic leaders who could determine the future of Rome. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 9, 2025 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies Despite its shortcomings, Gladiator II delivers a full-bodied adventure that skillfully balances responsiveness to its audience’s expectations with a reverence for the epic grandeur of its predecessor. Angie As with every Scott film the effects were magnificent. The story line flows all the way to the end and then it ends. It definitely leaves you wanting more. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Dana Thornton I thought the movie was really good, but it didnt quite match the brilliance of the original. The CGI creatures in the colosseum felt unrealistic, which pulled me out of the experience. Instead of being immersed in the scenes, I found myself questioning the creative choices behind them. More realistic CGI have made a significant difference. Additionally, the portrayal of the emperor brothers felt overly exaggerated to the point of being caricatures, which made it hard to believe they were legitimate contenders for the throne. That lack of credibility weakened the story's authenticity. On a more positive note, the acting overall was fantastic. The ship battle scenes were incredibly well-executed, capturing an intense sense of realism. Connie Nielsen delivered her usual exceptional performance, and Denzel Washington was absolutely outstanding. Overall, I would recommend the movie, but lacking the originals realism, it doesnt reach the Academy Award-winning level of the original. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review John Fabulous story line, Fabulous acting Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Karen L The acting was great. The sets were amazing. It definitely has your attention all the way through. The end was a little odd in that it just drops off. Worth seeing for sure, but slightly unfinished. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Robert O Better than I expected it to be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Michael Greatness can only be realized on the big screen! Great Movie, Acting, Action and Ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
