What to Know

Critics Consensus

This adaptation of David Mamet's play is every bit as compelling and witty as its source material, thanks in large part to a clever script and a bevy of powerhouse actors.

While the dark view of human nature and brutal dialogue might keep faint hearts from the film, the cast manages to individualize and humanize the pugilistic wordplay so that its expressiveness never veers into offensiveness. Go to Full Review

Mamet reveals his exceptional talent for writing almost poetic working-class vernacular, scores his major implicit thematic thrusts against the nature of the way business-at-large is conducted. Go to Full Review

David Mamet's play about the wheelings and dealings of real-estate salesmen gets dedicated playing from a splendid cast, but gains nothing by the transfer from stage to screen. Go to Full Review

…while Glengarry Glen Ross doesn’t moralise, it smacks of Mamet’s voice of experience, and anyone whose worked at the sharp end of sales will recognise the dehumanising tone of the events that play out here… Go to Full Review

A interesting but deficient film... As cinema, it lacks style and identity. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Daniel S 5d Glengarry Glen Ross hits like an intense, no-mercy showdown where every actor steps into the ring ready to flex. It’s basically a movie-shaped stage play, and the whole thing feels like a high-stakes, win-or-die contest for screen dominance. And guess who absolutely destroys the competition? Jack Lemmon. His performance as "Shelley the Machine" is so sharp and magnetic it basically hijacks the whole film in the best way possible. Some might say he got the juiciest material to work with, but honestly, he doesn’t just deliver, he obliterates it. One of the coolest things here is watching legends from different eras go toe-to-toe. You’ve got old-school Hollywood royalty like Lemmon throwing down alongside icons like Pacino, Arkin, and Spacey. It’s like mixing vintage gold with modern heat, and you get to watch the sparks fly. If you’re into character battles, powerhouse performances, and the kind of dialogue that hits like punches, this one’s a slick little gem worth savoring. See more Shelley K @ShelleyBK Dec 6 Watching these heavy weights on the screen together is a joyous treat. Pacino and Lemmon are so real and raw and human and cut throat. The whole cast make you believe every single word thats uttered. The demise of Lemmon's character is one of the most impressive pieces of acting I've ever seen. See more DanTheMan 2 Sep 11 As fierce as it is funny, Glengarry Glen Ross sustains a fever pitch of dramatic intensity where words fly with the speed and impact of bullets. Despite its acidic worldview, it evokes a sense of the value of artistic achievement and personal struggle. The dark view of human nature and Mamet's brutal dialogue possess a kind of logic, a rhythm, that enables people to reach triumphant conclusions at the ends of sentences, and has a special gift for drawing portraits of lowlifers who are harsh but also funny. There is great energy in it, delivered with razor-sharp precision by an ensemble cast at the height of their powers, who match it perfectly, all of whom manage to individualise and humanise the compelling, witty and pugilistic wordplay so that its expressiveness never veers into offensiveness. Backed by Foley's minimalist approach to directing, the rain-soaked photography and James Newton Howard's upbeat, jazz-infused score, Glengarry Glen Ross is brought to life with utterly demonic skill, one that finally validates my own worldview: coffee is for closers only! See more Ed . Aug 29 Alec and Al give tour de force performances, but Jack Lemmon is pathos personified. See more Noel L Aug 22 It was kind of like The Wolf of Wall Street before becoming an empire. Kind of confusing when they were talking business See more Mary A Aug 17 The actors are amazing but the dialogue they were given falls short. The idea of the story is interesting but the dialogue is over the top. I know it's probably meant to be that way but it's too much too fast. The characters could have been much more interesting if each of them had unique personalities instead of all of them yelling obscenities at each other. It seems like they were all playing the same character. The movie seemed unrealistic because if salesman talked that way to their boss and each other they would have been fired.
