Dorothy Rabinowitz Wall Street Journal Not many documentaries-not many, certainly, devoted to sports figures-can claim to bring their subjects to life so fully. Aug 23, 2013 Full Review Sheri Linden Los Angeles Times Not just an affectionate portrait of a gifted athlete-turned-groundbreaking sportscaster, the film is also a fond remembrance of life in New York City from the 1930s through the '70s. Rated: 4/5 Aug 15, 2013 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter As James Freedman's doc demonstrates, Glickman was the first true voice of the fan, inventing a whole new language for our 24/7 sports-mad culture on then-upstart HBO in the 1970s. Jun 8, 2020 Full Review Gerald Peary Arts Fuse The rousing story of Marty Glickman, who invented,in the 1940s and 1950s, the modern style of sports broadcasting. Rated: 3 stars Sep 25, 2013 Full Review Kevin Jagernauth The Playlist Marty Glickman was simply being the best Marty Glickman he could be. For many he wasn't just the best Marty Glickman he was simply: the best. Rated: B Aug 28, 2013 Full Review Cynthia Fuchs PopMatters The documentary hews to a conventional structure, its own story chronological and in some instances, perfunctory, using archival voiceover from Glickman (who died in 2001) as well as bits of his announcing. Rated: 6/10 Aug 27, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Very well-done documentary about one of the true unsung pioneers of modern sports broadcasting. Marty Glickman very quietly paved the road for most of the current sports broadcasting legends that you see on the networks now, and just about all of them are more than happy to do interviews in this to help contribute to his memory. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this on HBO. Great Documentary. I had never known about the 1936 Olympic controversy. Who knows what would have happened had we let them run? We could have added further humiliation to Hitler. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member good documentary, not outstanding like others brought from the people at HBO Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Great depiction of an athlete gone sportscaster Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
