Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times Not every note rings true, but this breezy pop song of a movie is mostly fun while it lasts. Mar 9, 2020 Full Review Catey Sullivan Chicago Reader It's all formulaic, but within that formula, [Emily] Ting crafts a story that is genuinely moving. Mar 6, 2020 Full Review Teo Bugbee New York Times By the time the film gets around to showing what a character has felt, they have already told the audience twice - and most likely another character has explained as well, just in case anyone missed the memo. Mar 5, 2020 Full Review Ryan McQuade InSession Film The lead performance from Anna Akana is impeccable and you can truly see that a star is being born in front of your eyes. Apr 4, 2024 Full Review Christopher Bourne ScreenAnarchy An endearing, brightly colored, and deceptively light film that turns sour racist lemons into sweet cinematic lemonade. Sep 26, 2021 Full Review Bianca Garner Next Best Picture A funny and well-written script that's packed full of laughs. Anna Akana and Richard Ng are perfectly cast. Wei I really don't understand what mindset the director is in to create a film that smears China, devoid of any Chinese culture. It seems like a garbage movie made solely to tarnish Chinese families and mock the father-daughter relationship. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Chi F Excellent, slice-of-life, cross-cultural film. I personally know real life people like the characters in the film, and it was refreshing to see a story that relates to my experiences and observations. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/09/23 Full Review K P I really enjoyed this movie. It may have it's flaws, but I think it really has its heart in the right place and I appreciated the acting efforts of everyone in the film. I learned a lot by watching it and would definitely recommend it as much better than a lot of films! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review H0kv5 . Wow there was more to this movie than just the family drama itself, i am glad i got to see this movie, it was a full pack for me, so there's like a ton of lesson to be learnt here and there was a lot of inspiring traits and personally I'd recommend this movie to anyone who's having a second thought on actually seeing this movie, like i said it really literally got me there. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/21 Full Review Audience Member I watched this film with my friends in China. I lived in Shenzhen for over five years, and I would say it is not an underdeveloped place like what the movie shows. A slightly literate person would know it is one of the most bustling cities in the world. Also, a scene I saw in the movie when a woman kneeling on the ground to fasten for a man, I have never seen that happened in China before. This movie is full of stereotypes of China. Is it because the director doesn't know China that much or he just simply loves to smear China.
