David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) If you can take that premise, I think you'll go along with the film and it's really, in its very weird way, quite funny. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 15, 2012 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) Gory, unfunny satire that deserves a prize for the most strained provocation of the year. Rated: 1.5/5 Nov 15, 2012 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Murray and Barr make for winning platonic chemistry even when Frank suspects himself of impure thoughts. Goldthwait holds his nerve as the film shifts from ennui to malevolent gleefulness. Rated: 4/5 Aug 3, 2012 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review God Bless America cries out for a change in a funny, shocking, unflinching manner and probes the depths of what it means to be a black comedy. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 17, 2022 Full Review Jordan M. Smith IONCINEMA.com For many of us, this garbage is getting old, and with God Bless America, Goldthwait has allowed us a cathartic outpouring of violence that offers a brief stopgap for our current sensory oppression. Nov 19, 2020 Full Review Ed Travis Hollywood Jesus What fundamentally didn't work for me was that all of the wit, humorous rants, and social commentary felt like they were aimed squarely at pop culture. Audience Member The writer and director are obviously not very good at movie business: you have to skip the first 20 minutes as the movie is interesting only after the first 20 minutes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently. I didn't know what to expect, but what stood out most was the excellent story telling and character development. The relationship between Frank & Roxy was believable, and by the end I had developed a 'Thelma & Louise like' fondness for them which left me feeling quite sad. The film launches with pace, and without a second thought, the audience is onboarded travelling with Frank & Roxy on a one way road trip to an enevitably unhappy ending. The script is frequently insightful, sincere and amusing which serves to balance the impact of the more violent scenes. It has a rather entertaining surreal quality, which makes the whole film seem almost like a dream, but of course it's not. The social commentary hits home, although as a non american citizen I found it somewhat incidental. The film looks good on screen with pleasing cinematography and strong soundtrack elements. Highly recommended, but perhaps not for a younger audience as the 15 rating seemed too generous. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Jeffrey P A dark comedy, in the fullest sense of the term, that pulls no punches and really pushes the limits. From the opening scene you'll know if it has the edge you need or if it's just too much. Some of the diatribes and social commentary are borderline great and second to none... because most films won't go as far as this did. God bless America, indeed, the only country something like this can be made and distributed to the public. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review cameron c I kinda enjoyed the movie in 2011, but damn, this really didn't age well. It's still well acted and everything, but I don't think you can feel any satisfaction watching the main character shoot up a cinema in 2023. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Lying I One of those guilty pleasure movies. All of us once in a while get cynical and want to just kill someone but would never do it. In this movie, you can watch others do it against a cliched comedic backdrop. No serious messages in this film, nothing to learn, just a fun (but dark and bloody) movie with great acting and chemistry between an unconventional and unlikely duo. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Yuri B This movie was wild. Even I couldn't believe how much ish went down. Those two went on a bloody damn rampage.
