Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Benasra obviously has an affinity for her subject. But her alternately lighthearted and pseudo-serious approach here ultimately proves more wearisome than illuminating. Mar 30, 2012 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Watching "God Save My Shoes," Julie Benasra's blithely blinkered documentary, is like gorging on empty calories: flavorful, diverting and with a slightly nauseating aftertaste. Rated: 2/5 Mar 30, 2012 Full Review Andrew Schenker Village Voice There's no escaping the fact that Benasra's doc does little more than perpetuate the myth of women-all women-as vapid materialists worshipping at the altar of Manolo Blahnik. Mar 27, 2012 Full Review Prairie Miller WBAI Radio While fascinating at times delving into shoes as emotional accessorizing, the infomercial leaning, ecstatic cluelessness of these quick fix female shoe junkies did not shed light on how corporations create unhealthy consumer imaginary needs for profit. Apr 8, 2012 Full Review Louis Proyect rec.arts.movies.reviews A delicious combination of Sex and the City and a Modern Language Association convention. Mar 30, 2012 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Fluffy footwear documentary plays mostly like a luxe shopping promo. Mar 30, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Alysha S I've never seen a deeper dive into relationships of women and their shoes. Some of the psychological factors don't make sense. And other comments seem like mansplaining. But it's an enjoyable watch overall and because someone like myself can appreciate what women say about why they love high-heeled shoes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a bit painful to watch at the beginning, but about 30 mins in, there're some good insights there. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I have understood the female's enthusiasm to shoes only a little. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member { See my full review at: http://hautecanada.com/2012/05/08/god-save-my-shoes-nationwide-release-today/ } What I really liked about this documentary was the wide range of people talking about the relationship woman have with their shoes. From shoe lovers, to shoe designers; from curators of museums to fetish experts; from magazine editors to burlesque dancers; God Save My Shoes offers many takes on why high heels are so addictive, so desirable, so exhilarating. The best part of this documentary was listening to Elizabeth Semmelhack, Curator at the Bata Shoe Museum. She is incredibly knowledgeable and had me captivated! She spoke about the history of shoes and how they have evolved over time - from the Renaissance to World War II, to present day. One thing is for certain, this documentary left me wanting a part two. Haute: A Blog about all things fashion; from haute couture to affordable ready-to-wear. Everyone needs a little glamour in their life. Enjoy the documentary, Victoria Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews
