During a test, the Dimension Tide creates a wormhole through which a giant flying creature arrives and deposits an egg before fleeing again. By now, the franchise has fully recovered from the American debacle of just two years previous, and feels like a Godzilla film again, no qualifications necessary. Go to Full Review

Idris G. @IdrisG08 Oct 11 Godzilla Vs Megaguirus often files under the radar but it’s a fun energetic entry that delivers exactly what fans love about The King Of The Monsters: Massive destruction, creative monsters design, and a unique sci-fi twist. See more The D. @randomshjt2727 Oct 10 Godzilla and music easily the best thing about this movie See more Khaliel P Aug 30 Godzilla vs Megaguirus (2000) complicates continuity by erasing Godzilla 2000 and introducing a mini–black hole weapon that unleashes prehistoric insects, leading to the rise of the giant Megaguirus. Director Masaaki Tezuka aimed to recapture the campy spirit of the Shōwa era, but poor CGI and awkward effects undermine the spectacle, giving the film an oddly charming yet clumsy feel. With Meganula swarms recycled from Rodan and a queen that recalls Battra, the film pits Godzilla against both humanity and a new kaiju threat. A box office disappointment in Japan, it stands as a flawed but quirky entry, whose ideas Toho would later refine in stronger installments. See more Laura B Jun 9 The story and characters are terrible. They are cliched, boring, and poorly written, which is a huge step down from the previous film and its enjoyable characters. They have little to no personality, especially the kid. The special effects are a mixed bag. When Godzilla first appears in 1996 in the opening, it’s not great. The buildings aren’t that detailed. But when Godzilla shows up in Tokyo at the end of the film, it looks fantastic. The effects during the climax look great, and that goes for the monster fights. Overall, while not very well written, the monster stuff is fun. See more Justin T 08/04/2024 I’m confused if this is a sequel or re-sequel or sequel to a re-sequel, the timeline is very confused in this film. This is not a good Godzilla film but it is better than the previous one. Much as there is lots of monster action, plenty of city smashing and a really cool new monster there are also lots of issues that stop this being even an average Godzilla film. It uses a mixture of old-school practical and really badly aged CGI. It’s the latter that makes this film hard to enjoy. They also have this horrible effect of dropping frames and blending frames for either drama or to make it more exciting but it just looks awful. Even Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) had better CGI as it was used sparingly and only where it was needed. Some sections felt like they were missing music. The human story was ridiculous but also serious which I have no real opinion on. It has the single worst freeze frame ending ever. The post-credit sequence literally made things worse and didn’t explain anything. See more Rich A 04/22/2024 Megaguirus is one of my absolute favorite Kaiju she is amazing! See more Read all reviews
