Chris O @Xtian5 11/30/2024 One of the most boring movies I've ever seen. See more Steve D @RT35616104 01/23/2024 An absolute mess of a film. See more 04/09/2020 I enjoyed this movie. A lot of later sci-fi borrowed from its familiar tropes, which were somewhat fresher when this film dished them up, delivered unpretentiously with the requisite actors to maintain a straight face. I found some of the directing interesting, as well as some of the over extended stock footage sequences of planes scrambling and a lab monkey. Despite its made for TV aesthetic, given when it was made, it is almost a template for much that followed (think Andromeda Strain), including that singular invention of the 1950's, the dishy lady scientist. The film demonstrates a kind of fascination with tech that is genuine and uses cutting edge stock photography of actual automation in the nuclear industry, etc in its day. The fine script is laced not only with tech sounding jargon but attempts to intelligently address concepts of cybernetics, computer hacking, energy, possible uses of frequencies of radiation, etc. Some of the set designs are creative and almost retro cool enough to not require updating. To get an idea of how effective this movie is, imagine Gog and Magog replaced by something slightly more convincing and threatening (without the apparently useless hilarious phallic blow torches). The future seems to have begun a long time ago and to have not changed much since, besides the density of video game special FX. See more Blobbo X @Blobbo 04/22/2019 Frightened Blobbo badly as young child. See more 05/26/2018 I actually thought this was quite good. Is it dated? Of course! It was made 60+ years ago! So there are attitudes and science that really don't hold up, but the core idea is strong because it avoids a couple of the most obvious tropes and instead aims to be a kind of techno-thriller. I went in with the low expectations I have for the majority of of 50s SF, not every film can be Them!, Day The Earth Stood Still, or Thing From Another World. But this is a clever enough film that it overcomes most of it's flaws. See more 04/09/2017 Corny but entertaining 50s sci-fi about a secret military base working on space hibernation for astronauts, but the things get weird when a supercomputer and it's robot minions begin taking over. Nothing great, but not terrible either. See more Read all reviews
