It takes the viewpoint of the resistance in the Basque region of Spain. The main character, Father Miguel, is a liberation theologist sent to replace a right wing priest kicked out of the town for his support for the counter revolutionary Franco. He maintains his progressive principles as he watches his superiors cravenly cave to the victorious Franco.
