Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media The script has a few clever lines, but the overriding theme is a belief that the world is divided into distinctly good and distinctly bad halves. tommy J This was a good movie that men and women can both enjoy. It's raunchy, funny, and the bad guy learns a lesson and becomes a good guy. Charlie Sheen is witty cool, and sensitive. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Matthew D I am so pleasantly surprised at how sincere and likable Charlie Sheen is in this underrated rom-com. Director Steve Rash’s romantic-comedy Good Advice (2001) is so outrageously funny for its humor and very earnest for its romantic tenderness. Rash balances the raunchy jokes with a real empathy for the pain of others as Charlie Sheen takes over a woman’s advice column in a newspaper. Writers Robert Horn and Daniel Margosis came up with wonderful advice column scenarios with a feminist viewpoint. Their great humor leads to tons of jokes, but the earnestness of the romance scenes and the writing segments are so sweethearted in nature. Casting director Valerie McCaffrey cast a fantastic ensemble full of great talent for the comedic and dramatic parts. Charlie Sheen is shockingly likable and natural as disgraced stockbroker Ryan Turner, who starts writing advice to women. Sheen going from arrogant broker to depressed loser to earnest empath and tender romantic hero is wonderful to watch. Sheen knows how to make the emotional beats hit hard. He’s certainly funny, but his dramatic and romantic scenes elevate Good Advice a lot for me. Angie Harmon is very beautiful and endearing as the panicked newspaper boss Page Hensen, who falls for Charlie Sheen’s Ryan. Their flirting, dates, and private conversations are really cute highlights. Denise Richards is a riot as the shallow ex-girlfriend Cindy Styne. Her line delivery is so silly. She sounds just like Margot Robbie in Wolf of Wall Street and as Harley Quinn here that I had me tripping. Jon Lovitz is so ridiculous as the greedy plastic surgeon Barry Sherman, who is Sheen’s pal. Rosanna Arquette is still gorgeous and hysterical as the vapid plastic surgery obsessed Cathy Sherman. Lisa Rinna cameos as Veronica Simpson, the wife of Barry Newman’s sleazy newspaper tycoon Donald Simpson. He gets some fun scenes. Estelle Harris is a scream as Page’s lewd secretary Iris. John DeLancie gets a great scene as Sheen’s old broker boss Ted. Francoise Surel is fun as Fox News host Lucy Stone, who is aptly a sensationalist. Pete Gardner is funny as Sheen’s old broker rival Carl. Christopher Burkott’s recurring Mail Room Clerk is so hilarious. In short, Good Advice is a quick 93 minutes of big laughs and heartfelt emotions. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/25 Full Review Jebb K Really bad. I mean really bad. Of course if watching attractive actresses have sex is your thing and if you like Charlie Sheen, maybe its for you. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/30/25 Full Review Melinda N I frankly never heard of this movie, Good Advice, but so glad I stumbled on it in Netflix. Hilarious! It is a 24 year old movie with a good portion of the cast comprised of recognizable stars...Charlie Sheen, Denise R., Jon L., R. Arquette and each contributed to the comic fun that was a bit twisted at times. Sometimes you weren't sure where they were headed to get a laugh but the performance art scene and yoga sex scene were weirdly creative and hysterically funny! Can't remember when I laughed so much! Thanks! Melinda N-P Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/25 Full Review K S Funny, witty, entertaining. Charlie Sheen is very good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review Robert L Too many good actors playing in an amateur movie. Everyone did their part well but there no sincerely of timing. Almost as if every actors were told to just read their lines but don’t feel them. Fell asleep 3 times. The ending was forced. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/10/25 Full Review Read all reviews
