Critics Consensus

Marianna Palka's quirky indie debut centred on two dysfunctional loners is hit and miss, but has enough originality to see it through.

Ruthe Stein San Francisco Chronicle Surely some of the young woman's porn videos would make better viewing. Rated: 1/4 Nov 14, 2008 Full Review James Greenberg Hollywood Reporter Alternately compelling and dramatically limp, the film scores points for exploring unfamiliar territory but lacks the emotional depth to make some very strange behavior believable. Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Lou Lumenick New York Post A short and sweet anti-romantic comedy, Good Dick puts together a heav ily depressed young woman with a homeless clerk who rents her porn at a Los Angeles video store. Rated: 3/4 Oct 17, 2008 Full Review Kevin Carr 7M Pictures Instead of embodying the fun and spirited fluff that a rom com should be, this film just grinds its teeth through the process. Stacey K A film about unconventional love, struggles, and healing. It's not a sexy film and it's not trying to be. I found it very light hearted and funny. However, the characters do have their dark pasts and that does play into the comedy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/14/23 Full Review Amanda L This is not a movie for the faint of heart. If you can look at addiction and isolation as the aftermath of child abuse, by all means give Good Dick a chance. The connection made by the protagonists might strike you, as it did me, as deep and fearless. But if you're the type to classify drug users and porn watchers as inherent degenerates, the harrowing baggage of the two main characters will be lost on you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/22 Full Review Audience Member I watched it because it was free on Amazon. I thought it would be a fun movie. (I just read the Amazon summary and no reviews.) It was painful to watch. The guy is annoying. He probably should have gone to jail for stalking. Both the guy and her father did a lot of help the woman and she is rude, mean and ungrateful for the kindness that she does receive in life. We assume that the woman must have gone through some trauma, but no idea what. The guy has some issues, but again, we don't know what. Finally, the movie is called "Good Dick" and there was nothing sexy about the movie. So the girl rents porn sometimes. However, none of the characters ever have any sex with each other. While not a requirement, probably should not name a movie about people too fucked up to have sex, Good Dick. To be fair, I was looking for a light "date night" movie and this is definitely not that. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Not very good at all . Was a quarantine selection and it shoulda stayed in the vault . I thought it was going to be more of a laughing type comedy but it wasn’t 1.7/5 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/20 Full Review m p Pornography, masturbation and sex. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the worst movie that my wife and I have ever seen. Hands down. Awful, dry acting and creepy themes.
