Audience Member Goth (Gen Takahashi, 2008) Interesting, if overlong, mystery that might have worked better as two separate films-a character study of its two would-be detectives (the goths of the title) would have fit the movie's pedestrian pace, while the mystery aspect could have been a separate, faster-paced film. That said, it is impossible to argue with the film's aesthetic decisions; this movie is beautifully shot from front to back, and full of the kind of eye candy that will leave you looking up the names of the cinematographer and camera crew in order to track down other movies they've made. Those aspects are not enough to carry the movie, but they're enough to give it a watch. ** 1/2 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A lesser known J-horror film, which wasn't predictable and had a good dark side to it! With it being Japanese, it wasn't anything special for what it was, but still a decent film! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review don s Very low-key in both acting and horror aspects. Focuses on two Tokyo teens who are hunting down a serial killer on their own due to their obsession with death. We don't get enough back story on the male of the pair to know what makes him tick; the female lead, as played by Rin Takanashi, is understated yet convincing in the role. The twist is lame and has little effect on the story. Still, I liked it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member (*** 1/2): Intriguing and well-acted. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Strange movie about two teenagers who are fascinated by a serial killer who displays his victims in artsy poses -- the sound track was interesting, and it did give me some insights into Japanese life; the film itself rather disturbing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow paced but hauntingly beautiful. This film makes the most of its ethereal atmosphere to draw the audience despite its sparse dialogue and small cast. It is hard not to be drawn into the morbid and fascinating mindset of the characters and Kanata Hongo's acting is just perfect for this role. Overall one of my favourites but I can not help but hope that the rumours of a Hollywood remake are unfounded as it is hard to imagine any remake being able to hold onto the rare essence that this film has.
