      Critics Consensus

Grand Piano is so tense in its best moments -- and appealingly strange overall -- that it remains rewarding in spite of its flaws.

David B A movie that should never have been made. Have any of those involved ever been to a classical music concert? I've never been to one as cheesy as this. Preposterous script, a poseur of a conductor conducting crap, pretentious music and a plot that beggars belief. And, as for the "wife" who is persuaded to burst into song at the end of the concert, words fail me. A film for morons. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/23 Full Review Piotr W One of the most fun movies i've had in a while. Had few flaws, few plot choices that im not satisfied with, and just mistakes like the last, the hardest song to play on the Piano was not actualy that impressive (im not a pianist so it is just a bad opinion maybe). But overall - i had fun. And this is most important thing while watching a movie. I couldn't turn my eyes away and i had troubles with blinking sometimes. Few design choices make this film great - the score of this movie is played by the orchestra on the stage, so the music is a part of the world and it is really fun if you think about it while watching. I cant forget the transition from the shot of someone's neck being cut to the woman playing cello. I loved it. I loved the vast sea of emotions portrayed by the main actor. I loved the conductor character that was really fun and i loved how they did show the concert, with more fun than you see in most movies. One of few movies where the good guy is actually more fun to watch than the bad guy and i love this movie for that. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review spencer p With a smart, Classical music-inspired script that only Damien Chazelle could write, beautiful cinematography and impressive piano work from Elijah Wood, Grand Piano is a short, top-notch suspense thriller. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review ahmad m Just wonderful. A timeless masterpiece. Both of them. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review kevin c Elijah Wood plays a reknowned concert pianist playing his first show in years due to stage fright. As the performance begins he opens his music sheets to see a death threat if he hits any wrong notes as an unseen sniper lies in wait. Interesting idea that has moments of suspense. John Cusack plays the antagonist. Decent watch but felt it was missing something Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Daniel W Grand Piano is so unabashedly ludicrous it is impossible to take seriously. But if you can accept that, it is fun and different. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
