Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting This is a messy film, complete with substantial logic gaps, more than one scenery-chewing performance, and a run time that isn’t earned by its relatively thin, repetitive script. Rated: 2/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Clement Tyler Obropta Film Inquiry Grimcutty is a surprising, terrifying, fun creature feature, and beneath the skin, there’s an upsetting, pulsing heart of trauma and pain. Oct 29, 2022 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider Grimcutty has a strong cast in its favor, and derives some scary-adjacent chills from setting its main baddie loose to grimly grab at teens in trouble. Oct 25, 2022 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media Yes, parents and kids need to be mindful of the problems that can arise with technology and especially with the mental and emotional well-being of teens, but this goofy-looking monster and uneven story aren't the best vehicles to deliver that message. Rated: 2/5 Oct 18, 2022 Full Review Joel Harley Starburst A comically out-of-touch Internet fable, Grimcutty is dull at best, borderline unwatchable at worst... About as enjoyable as eating Tide Pods. Rated: 1/5 Oct 18, 2022 Full Review Kyle McWilliams Mashable Without so much “on the nose” exposition, I might have left the film feeling more in awe, rather than feeling as if I had left a class lecture. BadNews R Grimcutty was one of those films that left me feeling conflicted from start to finish. 2022 was already a strange year for horror, but this movie in particular felt like it never found its footing. At times, I thought the actors were doing a solid job—the performances would hit moments of genuine emotion—but then, almost immediately, it would swing the other way, and the delivery felt awkward, stilted, or over the top. It was like watching two different movies stitched together, and it left me confused about the tone the director was aiming for. The central premise involves an online challenge that summons a creepy creature called Grimcutty. On paper, it’s an intriguing idea—mixing internet paranoia with supernatural horror—but the execution just didn’t land. The design of Grimcutty itself felt more goofy than frightening. Instead of being a terrifying monster that could haunt your nightmares, it came across more like someone in an oversized mask meant to be “spooky.” The jump-scares felt forced, and the creature never felt like a real threat. The movie also tries to tie in a message about technology, social media, and parents trying to protect their kids by taking away their phones. While I understood what the filmmakers were going for, the way it played out felt clunky and unrealistic. The rules of how the monster worked were never consistent, and the whole concept of “you see it because you watched the video but your parents can’t” was more confusing than creepy. To its credit, Grimcutty at least attempts to tackle timely themes, and there were a few eerie visuals that almost worked. But overall, the mix of uneven acting, weak creature design, and sloppy direction made the film feel flat. It wasn’t scary, it wasn’t thrilling, and it wasn’t campy enough to be fun either—it just sort of sat in the middle. For me, this one is a shrug. I can’t fully recommend it, but I also can’t say it’s completely unwatchable. It just flatlines in execution, and whether you enjoy it or not really depends on how forgiving you are with awkward horror experiments. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/27/25 Full Review Audience Member This movie was not worth the watch. The CGI for the Grimcutty was terrible, the acting felt weak, and the characters weren't worth caring about. The story felt rushed and the ending was extremely weak. You can skip this one. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Emma P Truly one of the films of all time. I'd say "so bad it'd good" but it's more like "so bad your teacher would force you to watch it". Bad acting and worse special effects come straight out of a playstation 2, the dad's eyebrows truly had the most emotion out of anything in the whole film. Came off like an internet safety PSA from 2015 and talked itself into a corner with unnecessary exposition and explanation. The half a star is for the one jumpscare, which did actually get me. 10/10, would hate-watch again Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/25 Full Review Zemario S LOL, can't be too mad at it. It wasn't horrorble. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/21/25 Full Review Oaklee D Oh boy was this bad, its a try hard IT rip off but with a fraction of the budget. Terrible acting, the man who plays the father couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. The special FX themselves were gross looking. This film feels like it was made by the elderly to warn us that "phones are bad". Some of the things that happen in this film I kept saying would never happen in real life such as the parents sitting the kids down talking about grimcutty and the grimcutty party etc. this film was just pure crap don't bother with this if you have a choice. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Orlaith P Changed my life. For a shitty movie it truly stayed with me for years. It’s all me and my friend can talk about. We quote this movie daily. Truly a must watch, though you will be disappointed(in a good way). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
