Australian college student Jennifer Carter (Naomi Watts) has a seemingly normal life with her widower father (Adrian Wright), until her crush on her married art history professor, Justin Thorne (Jimmy Smits), becomes an obsession. Worming her way into his life first as his family babysitter, then as a fan at his sideline gigs as a jazz saxophonist, and finally as his illicit lover, Jennifer's single-minded devotion to Justin threatens both him and his wife, Laura (Sarah Chadwick).
