As usual, trouble finds retired U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon (James Arness). In this case, it all starts when he is called upon to retrieve some stolen cattle. In short order, a close friend of the lawman is violently gunned down, and Dillon must deal with the culprits: a gang of ruthless cattle rustlers, led by the demented Col. Tucker (Pat Hingle). As Dillon and his daughter, Beth (Amy Stock-Poynton), track them down to Pleasant Valley, Ariz., they are drawn into a larger land-grab war.
