Wendy Ide Screen International [An] assured hybrid of backwoods thriller and fantasy ... Mar 20, 2018 Full Review Deborah Young The Hollywood Reporter It fascinatingly blurs the line between fantasy and reality, from the eerie intro all the way through to a surprise finale that raises goosebumps. Sep 18, 2017 Full Review Dave McGinn Globe and Mail [Director Govinda] Van Maele is in no rush to get to the climax and he takes a long time to begin to build suspense, but the slow burn pays off in the end. Yvonne T I like the film. Nice. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Benedito Luiz A Slow burning!! Terrific cast and cinematography! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/17/22 Full Review Audience Member I find it quite interesting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Gutland: A drifter with a checkered past wanders into a sleepy farming community in rural Luxembourg looking for work. There, he discovers the bucolic, close-knit village has a past of its own. Although this EVENTUAL thriller grows about as slow as the village’s surrounding corn fields (at least until the final act), and the story is somewhat predictable, it does provide a nice glimpse into life in rural Europe and the ties that bind their small town inhabitants. Frederick Lau and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) are also quite charismatic onscreen and Lau cleans up pretty well too.
