Ruy (Alberto Joel García Osorio) and Tito (Roberto San Martín) are poverty-stricken young Havana musicians, channeling their everyday frustrations into their music. When a record company offers them a contract with the caveat that they make the lyrics less personal in order to appeal to a wider international audience, the proud Ruy balks at the suggestion, despite the fact that success could allow him to rejoin his girlfriend (Yailene Sierra) and their children, who are immigrating to the U.S.
