[S]een alongside Godard's other films, Hail Mary isn't that shocking. It's a film of great sensitivity and yearning[.] Go to Full Review

Hail Mary is limpid, serene, and, for all the pubic hair on display, glowingly chaste. Go to Full Review

This much is certain: The controversy will probably sell a lot more tickets than is warranted by the comparatively solemn, unsensational nature of the film itself. Go to Full Review
Armond White National Review Dec 31
Every scene is a test -- of belief, plausibility, modern faithlessness. And every image (shot by Jean-Bernard Menoud and Jacques Firmann) is astonishingly beautiful. Hail Mary reaffirms Godard’s perfect visual pitch. Go to Full Review

At any rate Hail Mary has some fine moments, and some provocative insights about women and creation. Go to Full Review

Alain E @AlainE Nov 27 This has aged much better than earlier Godard works that totally alienated the viewer. I can’t say that this film clearly communicates a position. In this version Mary lives over her father’s gas station outside Geneve. She is dating Joseph who has transitioned from carpenter to driving a cab (Honda Accord to be more precise). There is an early subplot about a little girl that travels between her separated parents. Without having sex, Mary gets pregnant and eventually Joseph accepts the situation. Mary delivers a boy, who reminiscent of Jesus, leaves his parents to attend to his Father’s affairs. Throughout there is excellent photography, eventually Godard showing us aspects of nature, possibly reflecting the existence of God. This is a significant improvement over sequences of construction sites that we were shown in Two or three thing I know about her. This is essentially an intellectual poem accompanied by pieces of very good classical music that can speak even to an atheist like myself. I should mention that there is frequent nudity without any sex. If someone finds these images stimulating, they need assistance. An amazing study in psychology and relationships. Also incredibly well filmed. See more 07/27/2014 This is just a mess of a film. It is slow moving and ridiculously pointless. See more 04/11/2014 I had always heard of this film, but after finally watching it I was very disappointed. There is certainly a point here, but Goddard's artifice and pacing is so slow that it almost felt like cinematic torture to me.
