Audience Member Damn the critics for their poor ratings given to this wonderful, bouncy and colorful musical comedy. Tommy Steele and Julia Foster are perfectly matched as their young romance embraces their vows made together. The talented cast and dancers are the best feature in this lively musical. Tommy Steele is so talented as a dancer and singer I cant' understand why he hasn't elevated to stardom. I've watched most of all his movies as a teenager and was never bored. He's funny, cute and extremely gifted. The entire cast was noteworthy for their great performances. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It just isn't very good. I've been involved in a different version of this show for a few months now, and watching this completely confused me as it's virtually a different story and show. And I do not prefer this version. Some songs just don't fit, and others don't even work in the film. It's too long, and gets a bit boring in places. Some characters could most definitely have been played better, and characters could have sung some of the songs better too. I didn't find it that harmful or infuriating, it just felt a little like wasted opportunity. It's not the best show in the world anyway, but it does have an audience, but even if the songs aren't the strongest, they can still be made into something great. And it just didn't work here. The ending was odd, and there were many moments that could have been cut or reduced. It just felt a little all over the place. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Unintentionally hilarious moments make this memorable. Somewhat terrible - boring at times, but generally bursting with manic goofy energy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Uneven adaptation of a stage hit. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Saturday morning viewing at its best. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The musical adaptation to the HG Wells novel adds little to the story of Kipps. Nell Minow Movie Mom Rated: 3/5 May 26, 2005 Full Review Renata Adler New York Times The songs themselves, trite, gay, and thoroughly meaningless, make absolutely no concession to anything that was happened in popular music the last 10 years. May 21, 2005 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times As beautifully smiling faces waver gently in and out of focus, the sound track drips honey and molasses and horehound drops. Oh love, oh life, ah happy fate, that we, who have split this sixpence in twain as mere youths, should meet again, etc. Rated: 2/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review Steve Crum Video-Reviewmaster.com Not a great score, but it does have stage original Tommy Steele, a plus.
