Audience Member While Shakespeare's original may be one of the greatest ever plays written, the film version of Hamlet starring Maximilian Schell from 1961 is by no means worth anybody's time, at all. The thing that makes it so incredibly boring are the dead performances from most of the actors and the fact that the film just has no style to it. It's very much like watching a play, and when the performances aren't very good, it can spell disaster for the film as a whole. Something visual was sorely lacking to make this even remotely interesting. At this point, it's dead, and nothing's going to bring it back to life. The film was also featured on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, but even they couldn't put any life into this tiresome adaptation. To be or not to be? There's no question. This shouldn't be. Highly skippable. It is rather slow, but a lot of Hamlet adaptions are slow. This one was featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000, but not necessarily as a bad movie, you'll have to watch the episode to see.
