Kat Halstead Common Sense Media McKellen is impressive as ever, having first played Hamlet half a decade before, the camera allowing for a more subtle performance at times alongside his spritely physicality at others. Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl ...not a filmed version of the play so much as a reimagining of it using a theatre as its location, taking advantage of the flexibility afforded by film while foregrounding the skill of the actors delivering the roles. Rated: 7/10 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Perry Norton Film Threat This Hamlet is a fine entry point into the text. It may not have the straightforward staging of Olivier, Zefferelli, or Branagh, but there is a pithiness here that cuts clean through the abstraction used to render this portrait. Jadwiga K I'm sitting here still watching this god awful film, if not for the fact that I'm here with my classmates as a school trip i would probably walk out after the first hour. The cast, no matter how well they act, is ABSOLJTELLY awfull. Main character looks like an 80 yo and ophelia like a 20 yo. The actor playing the main character is older than the one playing his MOTHER. The modern setting doesnt help at all, it is dissapointing and makes the story all the more confuzing and not worth watching. I mean, it just makes it seem less real. Its espetially upsetting beacause I liked the original play. However, his version is boring enough that our teacher walked out abt 20 min. ago to"go grab sth to eat" and aproximately half the room is sleaping or at least dosing off (like 5 classes). Would never recomend, the medieval times logics just dont make sense with the modern settings, the language and story line doesnt match for example Hamlet working out on an electrical bike sort of thing. The diction is nice tho, so props to the actors for that. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
