As impactful and simply constructed as the titular tool, Hammer adds a solid second entry to writer-director Christian Sparkes' filmography.

Tim H Fast paced, intense, and emotional acting between estranged father and son having to work together kept me on the edge of my seat. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review JASON J Amazing that someone with a limited budget can make a much better movie than your typical Hollywood director. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Overall, this is quite a solid crime drama that tells a touching story about a father and son.  Their relationship is ultimately tested as the two try to survive and do anything to get out of trouble. It's a touching, gripping film, and I was glad to see a few nice mysteries and reveals along the way.  The film's biggest strength is leading performances from Will Patton and Mark O'Brien.  Mostly, this film delivers with only a few questionable aspects, namely some side characters' performances and the film's ending.  This finale felt somewhat vague, leaving viewers to make some assumptions up for themselves. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Was not expecting a beginning to end non stop sit on the edge of your seat movie, but that is what I got. Really enjoyed it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A nailbiter that deals with deep questions of nature vs. nurture in such elegant ways. Loved the minimal use of dialogue that left many things implied. So many relatable questions and issues that we all recognize even if we haven't had to deal with such extremes. There is no good guy and no bad guy. Great story, amazingly done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review gill d Really enjoyed this film, very well made film, fantastic acting. I loved the family dynamics, in the story, and the cinematography was fantastic as well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Barry Hertz Globe and Mail It's almost worth eating your own tail over. Rated: 3/4 Jun 27, 2020 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com A tense little thriller, a tight movie about someone who made a very bad decision and is now trying to fight his way out of it. Rated: 3/4 Jun 5, 2020 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter A throwback to the old-fashioned, lean and mean programmers that Hollywood used to pump out with regularity in the '40s and '50s. Jun 4, 2020 Full Review Bill Bria Vague Visages It’s a refreshing change from the sprawling crime sagas of late, telling a story in a minimal amount of time without sacrificing richness, nuance or emotion. Jun 7, 2023 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse It asks, and mostly answers, big questions about unconditional love and how far a father will go to help his son. Why this wasn't released on Father's Day I'll never know. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 29, 2021 Full Review Chris Knight National Post [Hammer reminds] us that every family has baggage. It's just that in this case it happens to include two satchels stuffed full of cash. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 26, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
