Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk There's ample drinking, chauvinism and homophobia and more swearing than you'd hear from a hungover Danny Dyer. Rated: 3/5 Aug 29, 2013 Full Review Dustin Putman TheFilmFile.com [Blu-ray Review] This Blu-ray disc of "Hammer of the Gods" looks aesthetically beautiful, brought to life in all its moody, fog-drenched glory. My only wish is that the film itself was better. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 6, 2013 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall The low-budget production values and a rather messy Game of Thrones meets Braveheart script might make this film feel extremely corny, but at least it tries to tell an interesting story without the usual Hollywood bombast. Liam D There are some very well done over the top blood and it did keep my interest but I'm not going to go back and watch it and it had an distracting techno score Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/22 Full Review Jo H Found this really enjoyable, gritty, atmospheric with a wonderful absence of pretty gowns, distressed damsels and nice clean well-spoken heroes. The dialogue is sparse and the film relies on the action/actions of the characters to tell the story of why the youngest prince is disliked, keeps the mystery of the missing 'heir' until the end. It also relies on the viewer's intelligence to interpret the action/behaviour of the characters to follow the story. The scene of the burning church is well done, leaving it up to the imagination of the viewer. The characters surrounding Steinar tell their own story without a lot of wordiness - Grim the foul-mouthed little wannabe (but who DOES) ; Hagen who will give Steinar everything out of loyalty, Jokul, doesn't say much but doesn't have to; and Ivar who makes no secret of his sexual preferences. Would watch again, as there are some parts where a lot is happening. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/23/22 Full Review jelisije j A movie with hardly any budget that had a decent script, action, acting, and didn't make me roll my eyes like typical Hollywood movies. Not great, not bad, and was a pleasant surprise for a viking movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I love medieval movies is this is a great movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member I've only recently become familiar with Jimmy Wang Yu, but I'm quacking becoming a major fan. I really enjoyed the One Armed Swordsman films and Wang Yu is a sensational martial artist on order of Jet Lee or Gordon Liu. Wang Yu wrote, directed and starred in this film film that faces off in the oft-filmed rivalry between Chinese and Japanese schools of martial arts. Like many of Wang Yu's films, this one is a martial arts bloodbath and features some spectacular fight sequences that seem comparatively modern when looking at similar films of this time. I have to say that I also quite enjoyed the stealing of John Barry music from a James Bond film that I couldn't quite place. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A fantastic directorial debut from Yu Wang aka Jimmy Wang Yu, one of the biggest stars of the Shaw Brothers era. He's great as a lead actor but also brought a real energy to his directing style here that I really enjoyed. And of course it's always a pleasure to see Lieh Lo as a villain, this time as a seemingly invincible Japanese Karate expert. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
