As magical as the subject of this film! My favourite children's author, Hans Christian Anderson, is depicted as childlike and innocent as the character's in his stories. I loved the interjection of some of Anderson's best stories amongst the telling of his real life. It is very watchable and the characters and the story of Anderson's rise to fame is very engaging and realistic. It isn't the romanticised version of the 1956 film starring Danny Kaye which I also loved but for different reasons. This dramatic representation of Anderson's life is very worth watching.

Some of the special effects are a bit weak but that is forgivable. The fictionalizing of Hans Christian Anderson's life was pleasantly interspersed with some actual facts. The fictional Jetta seems to embody another aspect of Hans himself and his own unrequited love for her brother.
