Deshan (Sun Yunkun) and his wife (Jiang Zhikun) are a peasant couple who reside in rural China. One day they are given a pair of sheep, and their lives are turned upside down. The townspeople become jealous, suspecting the couple of making a fortune. The local government wants to use the sheep's wool to make a profit and considers using the two animals for breeding purposes. Despite all the controversy, Deshan and his wife are unhappy about parting with the sheep when they're taken away.

Audience Member Ett gammalt fattigt kinesiskt par som bor i bergen får två får att förvalta av staten och det blir ju ett heltidsgöra. De äter inte, de vill inte föröka sig, de hamnar i slagsmål och de blir gula i ullen. Mycket kan man läsa in i det där, det är ju ett som är säkert.
