      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Hardcore Henry seems poised to reinvent the action flick, but without a story or characters worth caring about, its first-person gimmick quickly loses its thrill.

alexander n Lovable, crazy villain. Over the top action and gutwrenching moments, video gamey to the boot and a great soundtrack. Nothing bad to say about it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Josh H The movie was unique and the supporting chatterers was amazing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Alilali42 First time watching a movie in First person style I'm amazed they made it like this. It reminds me of the game, Press X to not die. But it's too irritating to watch the same as the game. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Willie V This film had an interesting idea, but unfortunately, it doesn't deliver on its execution. The main character is a very boring lead, which made it hard to dive into the film. The way that it is shot and stylized is unique but it also feels like a higher budget YouTube video with some choppy scene transitions and it seems to rely a lot on violence and other shocking imagery which is kind of the point. The concept is an interesting one that should be attempted again in some other ways with a plot that may be interesting to follow. It really just seems like a typical mindless action video game cutscene compilation, where hopefully in the future it could be expanded on to have a more carefully crafted story. As it stands, the film is not a must-see. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review jimmy r Bad hand held camera work. Does not work. Story is weak. Action is dis jointed Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review The worst of G This is actually a great movie that I would 100% recommend. The action scenes are exiting and immersive because of the first person perspective. The movie at times is also very funny. Now the story telling was a little poor, but tbh you probably aren't watching for the story or romance. This is a great movie that you should watch. Jason Bailey Flavorwire The camerawork is impressively nutty and it moves like nobody's business, but it's ultimately just a wind-up toy, and once it's done going in its tedious circles, there's not much left for anyone who can vote and doesn't subsist on Red Bull. Nov 17, 2016 Full Review Bruce Diones New Yorker This first-person-shooter extravaganza has little purpose besides showing what happens when a GoPro is strapped to a series of stuntmen as they run through their repertoire of extraordinary action moves. Apr 18, 2016 Full Review Jonathan Pile Empire Magazine Light on plot, high on braindead action, it turns out there's a reason hardly any films are shot in first-person view - it's just not a very good idea. Rated: 1/5 Apr 14, 2016 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Naishuller's presentation begins to numb the viewer about midway through, leaving us hungry for the story's few remaining kernels of plot instead of another of its chaotic set pieces. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 18, 2022 Full Review Therese Lacson Nerdophiles It's undeniably fun to watch for action lovers, but don't think about Hardcore Henry too much, or else everything else will fall apart. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 9, 2021 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness ... Hardcore Henry reads like any other actioner and at various points within the movie it could have fallen into that trap. Through the use of layered storytelling, clever timing, and a competent cast, Henry never gets boring or, worse, exhausting. Rated: 4/5 Mar 10, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
