Melissa L I have loved horror movies and haunted houses since I was a kid, but I didn't like this movie AT ALL. I think the McKamey Manor was sick. I don't know why this is so highly rated. I would not recommend it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review Audience Member If you have not watched "Haunters: The Art of the Scare" you are MISSING. OUT. The documentary offers an in depth, multifaceted, look at the haunt industry. I learned so much about the safety of scare actors, the competition within the fear market, the history of haunts, and what work people have been doing to make our Halloween experiences all the more spooky. I've probably watched this documentary like 5 or 6 times since it came out. This is a MUST WATCH! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I love Halloween, along with all types of spooks and gore, but this documentary is like watching a snuff film when it comes to the Manor. There was so much focus on this "torture chamber" of sadists that it ruined the film. If the Manor footage was absent this could have been a celebration of the creativity, art, and love of Halloween. Suspense, frights, scares, stunning effects, and thrills that the other haunters offer is spectaular but was overshadowed constantly by the Manor's disgusting grifting of what should be a good time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member So interesting to see the creative process of people that love to Haunt and create those great neighborhood haunted houses that I fondly remember as a child! Really well done Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Jon Schnitzer's documentary takes a fascinating look at the people behind both traditional and extreme haunts. The film is a gripping investigation on the psychology of fear and why some people crave it to an extreme length. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member McKamey Manor is NOT a haunt. To try to glorify the literal torture of people by including them as a "haunt" is why no one trusts Hollywood. Russ the owner is a con man. There is no $20k, this is why it is not included in his "40 page waiver". Nor is the term "completed" defined because he wants to move the goal posts to ensure he will never have to pay the $20k. Meanwhile this conman is selling subscriptions on the dark web to his streams of people getting tortured. This documentary is an attempt to glorify torture as "part of haunted houses". It's not.
