In the early twentieth century, shipping lines competed to be the fastest to complete a transatlantic crossing. But among the most famous record-holders was the RMS Queen Mary, which held the record for fourteen years, but now stands encased in concrete at Long Beach, California, where it has been used for many years as a luxury hotel and tourist attraction. The ship has a lengthy history of visitors reporting seeing ghosts and visions in its rooms and on its decks, making it the perfect setting for paranormal goings-on on the big screen. In The Queen Mary, a haunting story is unraveled between the ship's heyday in the late 1930s and the present and tells the story of two families whose lives become violently entangled.

Leslie Felperin Guardian There’s some real dramatic heft at play here – but the bloated running time drags it down, and lots of spooky business in the back half might have been better jettisoned overboard to gain speed. Rated: 2/5 Oct 4, 2023 Full Review Sebastian Zavala Kahn Me gusta el cine I enjoyed how DIFFERENT “Haunting of the Queen Mary” is, despite its flaws; the best I can say is that it's not generic, and that they should give more opportunities to both Alice Eve as a protagonist, and Gary Shore as a director. Full review in Spanish. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 21, 2023 Full Review Guillermo Courau La Nación (Argentina) Although it is far from being a genre masterpiece, Haunting of the Queen Mary comfortably meets the challenge of offering a simple but well-made movie. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Dec 14, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …Gary Shore’s well-upholstered film is more ghost story than horror, with twin narrative time-lines offering up something a little deeper than the usual jump-scares associated with the genre… Rated: 4/5 Oct 11, 2023 Full Review Whang Yee Ling The Straits Times (Singapore) This supernatural voyage, although atmospheric and frequently frightful, runs aground narratively. Karen N Worse movie ever. I've never rated a movie before and just created an account with Rotten Tomatoes to say this is the worse movie. Ever. Bad writing. Bad director. What was the producers thinking? Watch at your own risk. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Kyle M The Fred Astaire sequence is the only highlight amid the utterly muddled screenplay that still hooks with ideally slippery tension, possibly functioning as a video guide with an unsatisfactory narrative to hype the docked myths. (C) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Bliss B Here's the only part of this movie that was even remotely believable: Fred Astaire was absolutely the kind of guy who would take time out of his holiday dinner to be kind and supportive to some random little kid. Everything else was a disjointed and confusing mess. I didn't understand one minute of it, but found myself not caring enough to try and find out. You can skip it. Go watch one of the many very good documentaries about the real Queen Mary instead. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Audience Member Haunting of the Queen Mary attempts to delve into the supernatural legends surrounding the iconic ocean liner, but unfortunately, it falls drastically short of delivering a coherent or engaging horror experience. The film struggles with numerous fundamental aspects of filmmaking, making it a challenging watch with little to no redeeming qualities. Fundamental Flaws: The writing is notably weak, with a script that lacks depth, tension, and meaningful character development. Dialogue often feels forced and uninspired, contributing to a disconnection from the narrative. The direction does little to salvage the weak script, with scenes that feel disjointed and lacking in the suspense necessary for an effective horror movie. Technical Aspects: Cinematography and production design, while slightly better, still fail to create the atmospheric dread that is crucial for a ghost story. The visual effects are underwhelming, often pulling viewers out of the experience rather than enhancing it. Sound and editing are similarly lackluster, with poor sound design and choppy edits that disrupt rather than enhance the storytelling. Performances: Acting across the board is subpar, with performances that fail to convey the fear or intensity needed to engage an audience in a horror setting. This, coupled with poor casting choices, leaves much to be desired from the film's emotional impact. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Logan D A married couple and their young child take a tour of the Queen Mary. It's haunted. A frustrating but interesting haunted mystery featuring a non-linear storyline bouncing from present to past. Oftentimes I found the dialogue hard to hear in loud scenes. And I'm wondering why Alice Eve and Joel Fry have American accents despite being British and the young actor portraying their child speaks with a British accent. I respect the attempt of portraying a complicated plot, some might say convoluted, which provokes the viewer to think about the film they are viewing. I can understand why the audience rating is so low because of that. I, for one, was intrigued despite thinking it should have shaved ten or fifteen minutes from the run time. I want to view this again now that I know the story. Trivia: There is a legend that a young girl haunts the pool of the real life Queen Mary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Rheann S There were two distinct plots in this movie that would have made good movies if they hadn't been squished together. The pacing of the movie was thrown off as everything was hurriedly put on the screen in an attempt to connect the two subplots: the horrible history of the Queen Mary and the present-day ghostly interactions in the ship.
