After being shot down in Air Force One, Clarke and Derringer are forced to go on a dangerous, multinational run pursued by enemies intent on killing them. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Heads of State's lighthearted handling of geopolitics may be too cute by half, but the comedic alliance between Idris Elba and John Cena remains strong in this slick action flick.

An action comedy that's presidentially suited for a comfy couch, Elba and Cena keep Heads of State light on its feet with effortless charisma.

[Jon Cena and Idris Elba] bicker and blow away bad guys in a formulaic take from Nobody director Ilya Naishuller that has only a hint of the gonzo energy it requires to transcend its limitations. Go to Full Review

Like a gym-toned Laurel and Hardy, the mess they get themselves into is — broadly speaking — fine. Go to Full Review

There's a decent action scene or two, as far as it goes for low-rent action scenes in streaming slop. That's a pretty low bar. Go to Full Review

From a plane sequence, to several shoot-outs, to a helicopter sequence involving a bank vault, to an epic car chase through the streets of Italy... this film has really fun and entertaining action sequences that are worth watching. Go to Full Review

It turns out to be an entertaining action comedy thanks to the charisma of its protagonists, who have good timing for both humor and fights. One of those fun movies to watch on Prime Video. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Big, dumb action movies -- of which this is an adequate example -- certainly have their place, but the move to rebrand geopolitics as pulp entertainment is, I think we can all agree, not a particularly helpful development at this point in time. Go to Full Review

Ben N @Bneffer 4d An idea that had some promise of being a silly fun action movie, ran out of steam a 1/3 of the way in. The plot doesn't stray from the predicable and became monotonous. See more Downriver R @Downriver 6d It's a pretty good movie. Action with some laughs here an there. Great cast See more Revoir H @Revoir Jan 15 Absolutely Cinematic Action Movie See more Tony K @Trush026 Jan 12 A movie worth watching, I actually watched it twice and fully enjoyed it. However, I don't know if it's just me, but for some reason, I just cannot adapt to wrestlers becoming movie stars. While the Rock isn't so bad, I can never adapt to John Cena as an actor. The weight of the movie was totally on Idris Elba's back. It would have been better if The Rock had gotten the role. I would have given the movie 4.5 stars See more Ventsislav Y @Ventsi Jan 11 It was fun. Classic comedy-action movie See more nilufer e @Nilicim Jan 11 If it weren’t for Idris Elba, this would’ve felt pretty bland and mediocre. He single-handedly carries the film. Not laugh-out-loud funny, but there’s enough action to keep it entertaining. See more Read all reviews
