I'm mostly disappointed that some of the interesting elements of dark fantasy/ morality tale don't get further explored and instead turn into some incel romance that gets tied up too neatly at the end with parts of the story you weren't interested enough to care about. So it winds up feeling "huh?" Also, most of the great character acting talent is very wasted. Visually what they pulled off was impressive, but the poor script and story bog it all down.

A missed opportunity to create a great fantasy horror. With a fairytale-like concept, Heartless could've been one of a kind in the genre had it been executed properly. instead it's a mess of silly twists and terrible acting.

I loved Reflecting Skin and "in the eyes of Mr. Fury (book) so much and I really waited for this one, but it was disappointting in many ways. It felt like a BBC TV movie, the plot was predictable and the overall feeling was "oh no, Philip Ridley has lost it". Too much is happening all the time and the dialogue includes very embarrassing lines, for example when the main couple is talking about photography. I just buried my face in my hands...

Didn't always get what all the symbology meant, but the movie is always engaging, with some great visuals. The Faustian take in it is pretty cool, even if it's a bit illogical.
