Returning from her honeymoon with her husband, scholar Jorgen (Peter Eyre), the cold and manipulative Hedda Gabler (Glenda Jackson) is unmoved by the sacrifices he's made to provide her with an elegant home. But when she learns that Jorgen's rival for a university position, Ejlert (Patrick Stewart), has made a surprising comeback with a recent publication, she's quick to push him back into his former alcoholism, steal the sequel to his book and even encourage the writer to kill himself.

Seldom has a sophisticated classic been treated with such clarity and sensitivity that it is possible to relate rewardingly to the characters. Go to Full Review

Hedda is a very likeable movie... in which the performances are considerably more important than the camera angles. Go to Full Review

steve d 07/16/2020 Its way too unpleasant for my taste. See more 09/08/2009 Not much to say about this movie. It's a competent adaptation of the Henrik Ibsen play, nothing more or less. It might because I saw it on VHS, but the cinematography seemed pretty bad. It's one of the few films in which you will ever see Patrick Stewart with hair, which is weird. It's ok. See more 04/06/2008 Mind-numbing shit. Terrible acting and the film just pointed out the flaws in the story of Hedda Gabbler. Really weird and cheaply made... like watching 1970's porn. See more 12/05/2007 It was a weird play to begin with and the movie made all those odd parts stick out even more. Overall, I thought it was cute. See more 07/13/2007 This needs to be released on DVD. Glenda Jackson is amazing! See more Read all reviews
