christopher c. m There isn't much of a story and this was the overall conservative starting enforcing the Hays Commission when the old head didn't care about the stupid rules. When the word Hell was considered taboo. Where the title that the studio was forced to use was "Born to the West". Neither one really works for the plot anyway. I think the Hays Commission was the dark ages of Hollywood. Back to the movie, the characters aren't exactly deep. But with all it's flaws, it is one hell of a chase and it is worth checking out. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Your basic Old School Hollywood Western written by Zane Grey and starring a young John Wayne. It passed the time. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member It was typical of westerns from the late '30s. It passed the time barely, I couldn't finish it. The only draw and it's one redeemable feature was that it was interesting to see John Wayne early in his career and before he was a big star. He was a little comical looking in those oversized hats typical to the era. His voice was unmistakable, even if his face was. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good movie. Remember this is 1937. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Initially released as "Born to the West", a pre-"Stagecoach" Wayne stars as an irresponsible young cowboy put in charge of a cattle drive by his cousin (Johnny Mack Brown). Wayne screws up, loses the money from the cattle in a crooked card game, and all sorts of shoot outs between Wayne, cattle rustlers and card cheats resolve the plot in time for Wayne to settle down with Marsha Hunt. It's all briskly paced and lots of fun if not exactly brilliant. Based on a Zane Grey novel.
