      Hellcats of the Navy

      1957 1h 22m War List
Reviews 31% Audience Score 100+ Ratings Captain Casey Abbott (Ronald Reagan) commands an American submarine in the Pacific during World War II. When a perilous mission to retrieve a new Japanese mine for study goes awry, he's forced to abandon a likable combat diver, Wes Barton (Harry Lauter). Abbott's orders to leave a man behind appear to be justified, but his second in command, Don Landon (Arthur Franz), believes he had ulterior motives: Barton had been competing for the attention of his love interest, Helen (Nancy Davis). Audience Member Ronald was great. I don't read reviews on movies until after I've seen the movie so I had no idea Nancy Reagan was even an actress or in this movie. She was pretty back in these days. I had no idea. Lots of submarine duty in this movie, with some Frogmen, as the movie centers around a Submarine Captain, and what a Submarine Captain goes through with his decision making. Fine acting. Good cast. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member only film to star mr and mrs Ronald regan Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Hellcats of the Navy I found the characters plan and dull. The dedication at the beginning of the film was very good. I thought that the submarine sank too quick. The movie was not very good. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Not only is this Movie pretty Good, this is where the Future President & 1st Lady Reagan fell in Love. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member ronald AND nancy reagan?! ... meh Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member actually a pretty decent war movie considering it's not even an hour and a half. neither the writing nor the acting is particularly A-quality, but the story is very engaging and the effects are pretty decent too. plus it's just fun to see the future first couple in their only on-screen pairing.
