Audience Member This film portrays the struggle of two different women, an artist and a college professor, in a society filled with madness, distance and suicide. Sheer Madness is a build up to an unexpected dramatic finale. However, it is slow and very often distant and hard to follow. The cinematography by Michael Balhaus is wonderful, building a nightmarish and alienated atmosphere, and Schygulla is great as usual.
